Replacing your showerhead

Clogged showerhead that needs to be replaced

How do I know I need to replace my showerhead?

There are a few signs that it’s time to replace your showerhead:

  • Reduced water pressure. As showerheads age, the internal components can wear down, which can lead to reduced water pressure. If you notice that your showerhead is no longer providing the same level of pressure as it used to, it’s probably time for a new one.
  • Leaks. If you see water dripping from your showerhead, it’s a sign that it’s not properly sealed. This can waste water and cause mold or mildew growth. In most cases, a new showerhead will fix the leak.
  • Clogged holes. Over time, mineral deposits can build up in the holes of your showerhead, which can restrict water flow. A clogged showerhead does not spray evenly. You can try cleaning it with a vinegar solution, but if that doesn’t work, you’ll need to replace it.
  • Age. Showerheads typically last about 5-10 years. If your showerhead is more than 10 years old, it’s probably time for a new one.

Here are some additional tips for determining if your showerhead needs to be replaced:

  • Check the warranty. Most showerheads come with a warranty. If yours is still under warranty, you may be able to get a free replacement.
  • Compare prices. Showerheads can range in price from a few dollars to over $100. Do some research to find a showerhead that fits your budget and needs.
  • Ask a plumber. Unsure if you should replace your showerhead?  You can always ask a plumber for their opinion.

Replacing your showerhead is a relatively easy task that you can do yourself. With a few simple tools and a few minutes of your time, you can enjoy a new showerhead that provides years of reliable service.

Steps to replace your showerhead

Here are the steps on how to replace your showerhead:

  1. Turn off the water supply to your shower. This is usually done by turning a valve located near the showerhead.
  2. Remove the old showerhead. To do this, you may need to use a wrench or pliers to loosen the nut that secures the showerhead to the shower arm.
  3. Clean the shower arm. Use a damp cloth to remove any dirt, debris, or mineral deposits from the shower arm.
  4. Install the new showerhead. To do this, you will need to screw the new showerhead onto the shower arm by hand. Do not overtighten the showerhead, as this can damage the threads.
  5. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the showerhead a little bit more.
  6. Enjoy your new showerhead!

Here are some additional tips for replacing your showerhead:

  • If you are not sure how to remove the old showerhead, you can always consult a plumber.
  • When choosing a new showerhead, consider the water pressure in your home. If you have low water pressure, you may want to choose a showerhead with a wider spray pattern.
  • Some showerheads require the use of thread seal tape. If your showerhead does, be sure to apply the tape to the threads of the shower arm before installing the new showerhead.
  • It is a good idea to replace the o-rings on your showerhead every few years. O-rings are small rubber rings that help to seal the showerhead and prevent leaks.

Replacing your showerhead is a relatively easy task that can save you money and improve your shower experience. With a few simple tools and a few minutes of your time, you can enjoy a new showerhead that provides years of reliable service.
